I was only in Skye for little more than 12 hours unfortunately. From what I saw, it
is a beautiful island. The story of my leaving Skye and trying to get to Loch Lomond (the next place on the trip) is an interesting one. But to make it short and concise, I basically had to hitch my way to Fort William (a place a friend told me to see, which as you can see below turned out to be nothing more than a foundation next to a major strip of tourist shops), a distance of probably 80-90 miles, not including the ferry trip from Skye to the mainland. Then I took the train to Glasgow and ended up having to backtrack. What a day that was! Still, it was quite an experience. To the right is Kyleakin (while there's not much to see in this picture, there's really not much more to the town), the town on Skye in which I stayed for the night. Below is the town of Kyle of Lochalsh (viewed from Kyleakin). It's right across the water - they used to have a ferry that goes across, but after a bridge was built, the ferry disappeared. Amazingly, they charge $4 to cross that short bridge! |
Below is Fort William. Not much to see, huh? |
