INVERNESS, SCOTLAND

The third town on my trip, Inverness is famous for the loch just south of it, Loch Ness. No, I never did see the monster, but I did take a tour of the loch, which started with a bus trip down to the research exhibit and then to Urquhart castle. Then we returned to Inverness via ferry up the loch. A beautiful day it was, and a beautiful tour. To the right is the River Ness, on the right side of which is Inverness castle (you can just barely see it to the left of the lamppole).

This is me and Karen, an Australian woman I met in Stirling (she was on an 11 month "vacation"!). She decided to join me for a few days (purely platonic, unfortunately :) to see Inverness and then eventually Castle Carbisdale (the next town on the trip). We went on the Loch Ness tour together, and this picture is of the two of us at Urquhart castle.

Karen and I walked from the hostel to the tour departure point (a nice 2-3 mile walk), and on the way we crossed the River Ness on a couple of foot bridges. This (right) is a shot from one of those bridges.
After an interesting exhibit of the ongoing Loch Ness Monster research (all of which is basically inconclusive), we finally arrived at Urquhart castle.

This is the tower from where the two shots of me and the one shot of me and Karen were taken - the different backgrounds were different views from the one tower. Yes, incredibly enough, we were at the top of that dilapidated tower (the corner farthest from the camera).

And finally, a shot of the castle from the ferry, just as we were about to leave. This is another one of my favorite pictures from the trip.

Me at the castle (there's another picture of me at the castle on my bio page).

A nice clear shot of the castle and the loch from that same tower.
