Missile
August 2000
My final project for school (3DExchange). A missile launches from a silo, flies through the sky, comes back down, and destroys... well, you'll just have to watch it. All lighting, camera work, animation, and special effects created in Lightwave[6] by myself. Missile and silo and related textures created by a third party. Barn modeled and surfaced by me. Cows are the infamous Newtek/Lightwave cow. Music from the soundtrack to Drop Zone, by Hans Zimmer. Editing and compositing done in Premiere. This is a highly compressed, scaled down version of the original. Quicktime 4 format with Sorenson video and QDesign audio compression. 1.8MB
Missile Launch
August 2000
A full video rez sized image of a missile launching from a silo. From the missile animation above. 48k
Missile flying
August 2000
A full video rez sized image of the missile flying through the sky. From the missile animation above. 17K
Blooming flower
March 2000
My first personal project (not related to school). This was an idea that I came up with while listening to the music in the animation. I'm pretty pleased with the final result. Modeling and animation done in Lightwave 5.6. Editing and composting done in Premiere 4.1. Background image of flowers is a scanned image, and music is Loreena McKennit's "Cymbeline" from her album The Visit. Quicktime 4 format with Sorenson compression. 759K
Paper airplane
March 2000
A piece of binder paper floats through the air, folds up into a paper airplane, flies around, and crash lands onto a table. Mostly a project concentrating on motion paths and morphing as forms of animating. Modeling and animation done in Lightwave. Quicktime 4 format with Sorenson compression. 826k
The Clock and Evil Jack
October 1999
A cute animation based on work done for school. Each model was actually a separate assignment, but I put them together for fun. Modeling and animation done in Lightwave. Quicktime 4 format with Sorenson compression. 1120k
My first Bryce 2 picture. The mansion was taken from the "Poltergeist:The Legacy" web site. The "ghosts" around the mountain were originally meant to be rings of clouds, but they turned out looking more like spirits. 10/13/96 31K.
This picture shows some of the cool options in Bryce 2. The arch is an imported 3D object, and the image inside the arch is a picture of Stonehenge. The idea was basically a door to another world. I kept thinking of this one Star Trek episode (original series) where Kirk, Spock, and McCoy step through this portal that basically takes them to Earth around the time of the depression. 10/28/96 41K.
I was originally going to make this one into an animation. It was going to be a flight through the canyon, but I discovered that in order for the animation to be smooth, the camera has to be moved by entering specific values for each frame, rather than just using the controls to move the camera because the changes made by the controls aren't small enough. So I decided to just make a picture out of it for now. I'll get to the animation....someday. 1/26/97 202K.
This one's quite nice, though it didn't turn out quite as planned (they rarely do). I was trying to make a forest, but no matter how many trees I added, the forest just didn't seem thick enough. But the ambience and the stream turned out pretty good. The moon's a bit weird though - Bryce seems to have a problem with making the moon perfectly round. 3/2/97 76K.
In creating this picture, I was actually trying to copy a photograph I have of a sunset over Lake Tahoe. The picture is much prettier and more colorful, but the rendered version does have a beauty of its own. 8/12/97 42K.
This kind of scene has almost become a sort of cliche in the scene rendering world, but I still wanted to try my hand at it. I spent most of my time getting the texture for the cosmos just right. The terrains are pretty cool - they kind of look like nice green mountains frozen in ice - and amazingly enough, mostly all I did was hit the randomize button, followed by a little tweaking. 10/23/97 51K.
This is my other bright picture and also one of my other favorites. I love sunsets and this one sort of epitomizes the perfect Bryce sunset. The only oddity is a shadow that cuts across the left side of the pyramid's reflection - don't know where this came from. 3/13/96 21K.
This is one of my favorites. Like many of the pictures, it's dark - I like dark. 3/21/96 69K.
As the name suggests, this was a vague representation of the infamous land from Tolkein's Lord of the Rings. The picture is a bit too red though. The rock formation on the right is pretty interesting looking. Again the same castle was used as in the picture above. 3/21/96 98K.
This was one of my last Bryce 1 pictures. I'm not sure what I was trying to make - just something strange but cool. I really like the water. 3/25/96 48K.
